In the making

a way for designer to let their audience experience their objects is to expose the making process.
revealing the way things are made instead of being a mystery spoiler it acts as a way to re authenticate hand work and re establishing an emotional connection between the users and their newly born objects.

the making process of objects has become studio glithero's trade mark. they exhibit the making process as a live show in the openings of their shows and make live 'making machines'

and talking about making machines this is a self knitting lampshade by nadine sterk

a more extreme way is to involve the user in the making process by leaving part of it up to him like in this case the unpacking is also part of the unmoulding of this vase by itay ohaly

just one step ahead is just giving users an idea to follow and create their own objects following a certain accessible design process, like this ByProduct lamp shade created by yours truly with its own matching instructable

experience economy

maybe a good place to start in order to understand experience design and fit it within the context of our times is the theory of experience economy which though it has effected many other fields is yet to be an important influence on the field of design.
